Become a member of our small but growing club by registering-its free-and joining in our discussion groups. Feel free to discuss anything relating to the Flying Inflatable Boat, hangliding, or paragliding! This web site was put together by an American and his Norwegian friends, so if you fly a FIB on the other side of the Atlantic we would like to invite you to join our international community!

Interested in hitching a ride in our flying boat, and seeing Norway like you have never seen before? Contact us and we can make arrangements to take you up for an experience you will never forget.

It's a bird, it's a plane..It's a flying boat. It's the most amazing thing you probably have seen in a long time! It looks like something out of a James Bond movie. The Flying Inflatable has a rigid hull inflatable and a 36' Ultralight Wing. It is powered by a water cooled, 582cc, two stroke Rotax engine. Simple and reliable, these engines are proven power plants for ultralights.

This crazy craft can fly to heights of 10,000 feet, and features two passenger seating. And, if you're the adventurous type you can even turn the engine off, and glide like a bird to a nice soft landing on the water.

Latest Update on our FIB Norway
Postet af anonym Mandag, 21 januar 2008 (11:15:16) (1261 læst)

Our FIB is in Sweden, still undergoing repairs. It should be in shape by this spring. Meanwhile thanks to our active and growing community of FIB enthusiasts. Thanks for sharing your photos, and joining in on our forum. Keep safe, fly safe, and have fun. We've had some stormy weather here in the North lately!

Hadde fjernet noen støttestag, for å kunne flytte eksos og radiator (for å få mindre støy). Ny propell (som var noe legre) kom borti båten og slo hull i noe kraftig vind... Flyet står i Sverige til reperasjon nå. Forventes ferdig våren-2008 Hilsen gpi2 admin

Prop Strikes our FIB
Postet af perolav Onsdag, 29 august 2007 (07:07:11) (1621 læst)

The flying boat sinks fairly rapidly once the prop struck the craft. A propellor guard may have prevented the prop from striking the FIB. Has anyone ever experienced this before...

Well, the water wasn't too frigid, even here near the Arctic. We've got some repairs ahead of us and will be up in the air soon again. Sejt

Gpi2 Flying Route in Southern Norway

Here is a Google Maps link to our typical flying route in Southern Norway, out of our homebase in Flikka. It is a picturesque route taking in long, majestic fjords, pretty coastal islands, and freshwater inland lakes.

Why we use a Rubber Inflatable Boat (RIB) as a float
Postet af perolav Søndag, 08 maj 2005 (17:54:48) (987 læst)

.

The FIB is designed to fly on all water surfaces including the sea which is the largest runway available in the world.

The pontoon system, popular in the ultralight field, was not found safe and seaworthy for a weight shifting machine. It's well known that a single hull seaplane has better performances in rough sea than the conventional pontoon's like a catamaran. For this reason the most popular seaplanes in the world are all single hull for example the Catalina, the Canadair, and more...

After two years of testing Polaris Motor chose a specially made RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) for floating, that permitted safe take off and landings even in fairly rough sea. The boat jumps from one wave to another without any problems until it reaches it's take of speed. The boat also protects the whole machine, including the propeller, from the water during take off in big waves, leaving the pilot, passenger, and engine 100% dry. In the case of a bad landings, the boat slips around on the water, thus avoiding capsizing and other damage.

Compared to a machine equipped with a pontoon catamaran style, the inflatable boat has a more naturally aerodynamic shape that reduces the drag in the air and does not interfere negatively with the control of the aircraft. For this reason the FIB allows take off and landing up to sea strengths of 3/4 without any problems.

The fiberglass hull of the RIB is specially designed for surfing quickly, with very little power the FIB reaches take-off speed in a very short run.

The FIB is very safe means of transportation, while taxiing in water to reach take off and landing. There are many advantages compared to other sea ultralights, such as transporting on a small trailer, storage, parking on beaches, docks etc.

Without a wing the FIB is a very fast airboat, the wheel kit transforms the FIB into a land trike to fly on land or, with skis, on ice and snow.
